Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ

The message of the Bible is clear and plain: There is no way to have a right relationship with the sovereign Lord of the universe without believing on His Son, Jesus Christ. The person who does not believe on Jesus Christ cannot have a right relationship with God. He is alienated from Him, and the scriptures declare him to be spiritually dead. He is under God's present judgement (condemnation), and if he dies in his sins he will bear God's future judgement forever.

We are alienated by nature from God because we are all sinners (Romans 3:23). We all do what God has commanded us not to do, and we don't do what He has commanded us to do. We are constantly missing the mark of His perfect standards. (Psalm 14)

God is holy--He is perfect, righteous, and intolerant of sin--so He judges evil. Because we're sinners, we're under His judgement, until we receive the one and only remedy for sin that God has provided: His Son, Jesus Christ.

Following are several scriptures that command us to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, or teach the necessity of believing on Him. (To "believe" in Christ means to receive Him as true, to place one's confidence in Him, to trust in Him, and to submit oneself to Him.)

Abraham believed in the LORD; and the LORD counted it to him for righteousness. (Genesis 15:6)

…as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man [Jesus] be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:14-18)

…these [things that Jesus said and did] are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. (John 20:31)

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved… (Acts 16:31)

…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)

…a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, [so] even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. (Galatians 2:16)

…this is God's commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ… (I John 3:23)

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God… (I John 5:1)

…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

Psalm 14

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none that does good.
The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
to see if there are any that act wisely, that seek after God.
They have all gone astray, they are all alike corrupt;
there is none that does good, no, not one.

Numbers 21:5-9 (Moses lifts up the serpent in the wilderness).

…the people [of Israel] spoke against God and against Moses: "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread." So the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many of the people of Israel died.

Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, "We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you; pray to the LORD that He take away the serpents from us." So Moses prayed for the people.

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live." So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
